FUMETTO (EROTICO): SQUEAK THE MOUSE (MASSIMO MATTIOLI CARTOONS)

Aggiungendoci in mezzo, come special guest-star, MADONNA…
E sì.., proprio lei… E stato uno scherzo, divertente e davvero ben riuscito. E vi assicuro che merita davvero, cari amici e amiche.

Beh!

Ancora grazie MIRKO e LUCA.

Who doesn't know the great cartoon-comics artist MASSIMO MATTIOLI?
I think there are very few of them .. Unfortunately, MATTIOLI left us, just over two years ago (Friday 23 August 2019), after a brief illness at the age of 75. For the few who did not know him, I only say that MATTIOLI was one of the most important and influential Italian cartoonists in the world: his works have been able to range with eclecticism from the excesses of the underground to the lightness of the stories for the little ones.

From splatter to humor, from porn to nonsense, from experimentation to science fiction, Mattioli's comics were cartoonish and pop and marked an unrepeatable season of Italian comics, the one between the seventies and eighties, in the constant search for a narrative full of uncompromising ideas and exaggerated results. And Mattioli had many ideas with a bang. Just think of the over a thousand stories published in the career of Pinky, the pink rabbit of the Giornalino, photojournalist protagonist of inventive and dreamy adventures as well as his most famous character.

Massimo Mattioli was born in Rome on 25 September 1943 and was known in particular for having founded in 1977 together with Stefano Tamburini, Cannibale, a magazine in which Andrea Pazienza, Filippo Scòzzari and Tanino Liberatore collaborate, for his stories published in Frigidaire, for the adventures of Pinky and for Squeak the Mouse, the comic that we present today; which is a hilarious splatter farce that legend has it inspired Matt Groening to create Itchy & Scratchy.
But Massimo Mattioli's career has been long and varied. He began in 1965 with strips for the weekly La Tribuna Illustrata and the comic series Il gatto calipfo for Il Vittorioso. After making several comics for Il Vittorioso, in the late 1960s he moved to London, where he collaborated with Mayfair magazine, and then to Paris, where for Pif Gadget he created the surreal comic series M le magicien. On Cannibile and Frigidaire he proposed a multitude of short comics, among which we remember Gatto Gattiva, Microcefalus, Bastardi, Il case Joy Division, Guerra, Frisk the Frog, and Tales of fear, all recently collected in the volume Bazooly Gazooly (Comicon Edizioni, 2019)

In 1989 he made the music video for the song "Change His Ways" by the British singer Robert Palmer. He exhibited his works in the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Bologna (1982), in the Studio Marconi Gallery (1984), in the Spazio Memphis (1985), at the Swatch Street Painting in Basel (1987), at the Salão Lisboa (1999) and at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs / La Galerie des Jouets in Paris (2007).
Parallel to his activity as a comic book author and illustrator, he devoted himself to writing short stories and screenplays for cinema and television. His career awards include the French Phénix award in 1971, the Yellow Kid at Lucca Comics 1975, the Romics d’Oro in 2009 and the Micheluzzi Awards from Napoli Comicon for Pinky in 2010 and 2012.

In August 1982 on Frigidaire, he published the porn-splatter comic Squeak the Mouse, in which a cat and a mouse killed each other in the most violent and gory ways possible.
The work also arrived in the United States, where it ended up on trial even before being distributed for its content considered obscene and pornographic. In court he was defended by the historian of comics Maurice Horn and Françoise Mouly, at the time editor of Raw, the magazine of Art Spiegelman, and now the art director of the New Yorker, who won the case.
And it is Squeak the Mouse the comic that I present to you today on the blog. You will say: but what does it have to do with Madonna
Center, center ... because what we present today is a "revised and corrected" version. And yes ... this thanks to the brilliant "joke" of two students from the "Adolfo Venturi" Institute of Art in Modena; LUCA and MIRKO. Two huge fans of Ciccone and comics. You have to think that in 1992 these two guys that I had the privilege of meeting via Facebook, while they were in the last year of high school, had fun (so you can say!) To make "their own version" of this perhaps most famous comic. and controversial of MATTIOLI. They combined the two episodes; Squeak the Mouse1 and Squeak the Mouse 2, in one story. Adding in the middle, as a special guest-star, MADONNA… And yes .., just her…
It was a joke, funny and very successful.

And I assure you that she really deserves it, dear friends.
